Cyclops removal Oct 10, 2006 - 12:01 PM
I had no idea that the cyclops lens was a separate piece and can be removed. Does this need to done by Rolex or can an AD remove it if so desired?
Thank you,
Chris

I don't know this is something Rolex will do for you as it is not "standard" for the watch. However, it has been done by a few on this forum.

but it has been done by a few members here (using techniques varying between a well-sharpened chisel and a well-honed relationship with an AD) 🙂 If you are adventurous and are happy to work with your hands, you can try to do it yourself otherwise your AD might help you out (depending of course, on where you are).

I have recently had mine removed by my local service center. I have a GMT ii, and just didn't like the Cyclops. There is a thread on this subject (search under mannlamb and you'll find it)and there are some good before and after photos that people have submitted. Personaly speaking (and it is absolutely a very personal thing) I much prefer my watch without the Cyclops. I found it clutered the face, you couldn't see the date at an angle and I had to do a double take from anything between ten past two and twenty past three !!
I say get rid of the little blighter. (my local Rolex service centre did it while I waited (ten minutes) and didn't charge me anything for it.
Giles.
